Cheese Sandwich

Ingredients:

bread slices
cheese slices or cheese sliced from a block
mayonnaise sauce (or butter)
salt - to taste
black pepper - to taste
mustard
lettuce leaves (optional)

Method:

Mix mayonnaise, salt, pepper and mustard. Spread a layer of this mixture on to two slices of bread.

Place a lettuce leaf on one of the slices (on the mayonnaise side)and cover with cheese. Place the second slice mayonnaise side down to cover the cheese.

Cut the crusts, if you so desire and serve.

Garden Fresh Toast


Tasty and nutritious toast to break the fast.

Time Required: 20 Minutes

Serves: 4


Ingredients:

8 Plain Bread slices
1/2 Yellow Pepper/Capsicum, Chopped finely
1/2 Red Pepper/Capsicum, Chopped finely
1 Tomato, Chopped finely
1 Onion, Chopped finely
Chili Flakes
Mozrella Cheese, Grated

Method:

Arrange pieces of vegetable over each slice of bread, sprinkle some Chili Flakes and lots of Cheese over it and bake until the Cheese melts. Serve with Tomato Ketchup.
Note: Olives, Gherkins, Sweet Corn, Jalepenos and Baby Corn can be added.

Potato Sandwich

Grilled Sandwich with spicy mashed Potato filling.

Time Required: 1 Hour
 
Serves: 4

Ingredients:

8 Plain Bread slices
Butter
4 Potatoes
1 Cup Peas, Shelled and boiled
1 Onion, Chopped
4 Green Chilies, Chopped
1tbsp Coriander Leaves, Chopped
Few Curry Leaves, Chopped
1tbsp Lemon Juice
1/2 Cup Fresh Grated Coconut
1 Cup Gram Flour
A pinch of cooking Soda
1/2tsp Chili Powder
1tbsp Oil
1tsp Mustard Seeds
1/2tsp Turmeric Powder
Salt to taste

Method:

Boil and peel Potatoes. Mash them and keep it aside.

Heat Oil and add Mustard Seeds and when they start to splutter add Turmeric Powder, Green Chilies, Curry Leaves and Onion. 

Fry until the Onions turn translucent. Add mashed Potatoes, Peas, Salt, Coriander Leaves and Lemon Juice and mix well.

Apply butter on one side to all the Bread slices.

Now, on the unbuttered side of the bread,spread a thick layer of the Potato mixture and keep another slice of bread over it. (Note: the buttered side of both the Bread slices should be facing outside). 

Keep this sandwich in the pre-heated sandwich maker and remove after 5 minutes. 

Remove and serve with Chutney and Tomato Ketchup.

Cheesy Onion Toast

Time Required: 20 Minutes

Ingredients:
 
Few slices of Bread
2 Carrots
3 Onions
100gms Cabbage
1 Small bunch of Spring Onions
4 Chopped Green Chilies
3tsp Tomato Ketchup
2tsp Chili Sauce
175gms Mozzarella Cheese
2tbsp Butter
Salt to taste

Method:
 
Chop all the Vegetables and Spring Onion Scallions very finely. Heat Butter in a pan and add the Onions and stir fry for 2 minutes. Add the other Vegetables and saute for 5 minutes.

Add half the Cheese and mix well. Add Tomato Ketchup, Chili Sauce and Salt and stir.
 
Cook for another 2 minutes.

Toast the Bread Slices for 5 minutes in an oven. Spread the vegetable mixture over each slice and sprinkle some cheese over them and toast again until the cheese melts.
Serve hot.

Garlic Bread

Ingredients:

4 Bread Slices
8 Garlic Pods, Crushed
2tbsp Butter

Method:
Heat Butter and add Garlic and sauté for a minute or two. Spread a spoonful of this over each of the bread slice. Toast in a preheated oven or on a tava/griddle for 3 minutes. Serve hot with your choice of soup.

Variation: Add some grated cheese over each of the bread slice after spreading the garlic mixture and then toast until the cheese melts.

Chili Cheese Toast Recipe

Ingredients :
Bread slices - 12
Cheese cubes - 3
Pasteurised butter - 100 gms
Green chillies - 3
Salt - Little
Pepper powder - 1/2 tsp
Chopped coriander leaves - 1 tbsp

Method :
1.  Apply little butter to bread slices.
2.  Chop green chillies into thin round pieces.
3.  Grate cheese using a fine cheese grater.
4.  Mix all the other ingredients together, for filling except bread.
5.  Keep little of the filling in between two slices of bread.
6.  Press and toast using a sandwich toaster. (Both sides till brown)
7.  Serve with ketchup or mint chutney.
